Vietnam: Halong Bay

Once Matt & Chelle had arrived in Hanoi we decided to take a tour booked through our hotel to Halong Bay, a 1,500km body of water containing huge limestone islands that jut out at random intervals. We booked the 2 night 3 day tour so we could spend one night on a brand new very swish Junk boat and one night in a quaint hotel on Cat Ba island. We spent the time taking in the magnificent views of the bay in the rain which gave the bay a rather mysterious misty feel. Bobbie and I had another g0 at kayaking with Matt & Chelle and it was a much more enjoyable experience to the one we had in Fiji! We toured some very beautiful caves but didn’t unfortunately get to visit Monkey Island as the weather wasn’t great. We met some great people including an Aussie couple Darren and Ali and an English couple Mark and Cres (hey guys!). We all managed to pack away the booze on the first night we stayed on the Junk boat and sang karaoke until late into the night, mine and Darrens version of Eternal Flame went down a storm! On Cat Ba island we just chilled out and went for a few quiet drinks in the evening. All in all it was a great trip into a very beautiful part of Vietnam and fun was had by all.
